Is there a point? in Figure Realm Comments and Questions by MercMouth Customs

   [Edit]
Lately I've become less enamored with the Realm. There are many reasons for this sad state, but the primary cause is this:

Part of the reason I loved the Realm when I first joined was the comments and feedback I received from other Realmers. They both showed an appreciation for my work, as well as offered helpful criticism that helped me grow as a customizer. But for many moons now, that feeling of community has slowly fallen away, as feedback for my works has withered and dried to the point of nonexistence. To clarify, this only applies to figures that I submit normally. The figures I submit to the contests generate more feedback, and I'm appreciative of every one I receive. However, in recent times there is such an expanse of time betwee...[See More]

While I understand that the critiques---positive or otherwise---help us all to grow as customizers, don't let the lack of it convince you to stop posting your customs. Although it's really nice to hear from some of my favorite customizers, I realize they have lives and loved ones as well as I do, and they can't leave comments all the time. At the same time, if I see a work that really catches my eye I will definitely let that artist know what a great job I think they've done on it. It's just really too time consuming to leave comments for every piece. But don't let that prevent you from posting your work. Keep it coming.

The hobby is not fading..I feel ppl need to put more effort into their presentations when they post..meaning better pictures, posing ,backdrops, dioramas or trying to show and tell a story within these pictures like in movies and comics.that what toy photographers do in social media and believe me it draws a lot of attention. People love it. Gotta bring these customs figures to life to catch the eye of the public. Those days of posting customs like stiff puppets are fading away like the dinosaurs. We seen this many times and its repetitive. Offering better presentation bring something fresh and new to the table..that my opinion.

I think it's fine for people to use the Showcase however they want. Even if there aren't tons of comments flying around, posting your work in the Showcase still gets lots of eyeballs on it, and that translates into possible commissions. I think that's vital nowadays with how expensive toys are, you need a way to fund this hobby.

Also, keep in mind constructive feedback is rare. Not everyone is a wordsmith, or has the technical experience or time to give it. I'm still mediocre at customizing, but I try to comment any time I think it'll help the creators.

I already went on the emotional roller coaster regarding this hobby. I don't feel like writing in-depth toy reviews or articles like I used to, I'm just not that into it anymore. A big part of it is because there's no one local I can talk ...
What are your thoughts on "Critique" option and "Thumbs Up" button for the Custom Showcase? in Figure Realm Comments and Questions by Henchmen4Hire

   [Edit]
Seen the ideas float around and I think they'd be a great addition. (However, whether or not such things can be implemented into the site are up to Captain Coder)

Critique Option
When submitting a custom, there will be an "Accept Critiques?" checkbox you can tick to let people know whether or not you want them to critique your work. Also, we could have a Critique checkbox in our customizer profiles, so ticking that box will display an icon in all our submissions saying we're open to critiques, so we don't have to activate the feature for every submission.

"Like" Button
It bums us out when no one responds to a custom we worked hard on. Not everyone has time to type out a complimentary comment, so a quick click on the "Like" Button would le...[See More]

I love both the like and critique option ideas.

Another idea could be to implement a rating system similar to the contest rates. This system could work either with or independently of the a like button. At the very least, it could give an idea of the quality of one's work as perceived by others.

You mean like coolminiornot.com? I don't know, I think encouraging critiques is better than arbitrary numbers. It's also why I don't like the current voting system for the contests, I'd rather people say why they think something is good or bad, not just throw a number out there.

I'm not crazy about the Like Button idea either, but it's benign enough and I think encourages customizers enough that I don't mind it.

You could probably cut it above the knee swivel, glue a few shims of plastic in there, then sculpt and sand it smooth again.

Doesn't look like the Sculpey line has any 2-part clay products.

There are other clays that are 2-part products though, like kneadadite, apoxie sculpt, procreate, etc.

Well Hello there. Found this site searching google. I love it so kudos to everyone. I want to star a project customizing action figures and have learned a lot with YouTube tutorials and with this site. Anyways. MY doubt is this:

I read on the tutorials section that in order to make a custom with metallic colors I must use a base first like chrome metallic or silver. THEN I can use the Transparent paint (any color) on it And it will have the desired color. So I went to eBay looking for the "Testors Transparent Green" But only found the airbrush paint. Can I use this and apply it with a brush ? Will it work the same ? I dont want to buy it without knowing first since I am kind of a Budget.

So please let me know what you can It will be gre...[See More]

Also Model Masters have clear paints that can be applied with a brush.

It depends on what kind of effect you want. "Metallic", "Chrome", and "Pearl" all have very different finishes from each other.

To make a part look like colored metal, you would paint the part solid silver (a metallic) or chrome then use a transparent/clear/translucent color on top of it. People do it all the time for iron man customs.

Pearl isn't metallic (but it can look that way). The paint bottle in that picture is for a "pearl", it's not transparent. You can paint that over anything and it will be pearl green. Here's a figure painted with Pearl White http://www.figurerealm.com/customfigure ... w&id=77165 Note how it doesn't look like metal, it looks specifically like a pearl. And yeah, you can brush that Testors Pearl paint by hand, I used the same brand, it just takes a ton o ...

Cannot moderate submissions in contest I am managing -- normal? in Figure Realm Comments and Questions by ZombieKev
Wednesday, June 15, 2016
   [Edit]
I'm managing a contest, but I don't seem to have any ability to change or moderate submissions at all. I can't see the pics or remove submissions at all. Is that normal? I noticed a user accidentally submitted an entry twice, but I can't seem to remove one....[See More]

Yea, unfortunately there is no way for users to moderate the contests. Just let me know if you need something removed. I removed that duplicate.

Hello realm! I am working on a Sgt. Apone custom from aliens. I'm using a McFarlane Hicks body with all Simmons arms. But I'm in need or head and neck to complete this. Mynsculptong skills are not that great. I had planned on using a Jonah Jameson head but its not proportional. I don't that think an Apollo creed head will do either.Any thoughts or Suggestions?...[See More]

A customizer once made a sgt apone that used an Expendables 2 Hale Caesar head and arms. Maybe this could work for yours as well.

No, the checklists aren't dead. We still do updates constantly, but the new stuff is always the hard part to keep up with.

Absolutely, you can help The biggest help would be to let us know what's missing by sending us a CSV file of the missing figures. There's help on that here: http://www.figurerealm.com/help#3-74
Reduce the requirements to manage contests in Figure Realm Comments and Questions by ZombieKev
Friday, May 20, 2016
   [Edit]
I think you should reduce the requirements to manage contests. The 100 (or is it 200?) comments requirements is too steep. I'd happily manage a few contests if I could. The ones that do get approved sometimes seem out there, while the ones that languish are usually the ones that would generate way more entries....[See More]

Welp, I went ahead and mass posted (to customs I liked), then approved a few contests I'd like to see.
